This fine French antique fireplace mantle is from the directoire period. The carving is very fine. The front is one solid block and figuring a Napoleon head. The limestone is from the harder kind. The waxed mantel reflects the light of the room. Thanks to the deep jambs and sides return it can even be used around a smaller upper mantle. It dates of the 18th century. Elegant country.
