Bas-relief bearing the coat of arms of the Papal Chigi family on the right.
Exceptional quality. Made in the style of sculptor Jean Goujon, who worked for the French court and later in Italy for Italian papal family. He had a typical flowing style which he later perfected and which became his own trademark. At this point he distinguished himself from the Italians by freeing the volume and creating perspective. The left of the bas relief represents a quiet area. The left tree is peaceful. The tree and the swan with the nymph playing harp music.  Woven into the perspective of robes is a deity blowing the nymphs to higher realms. More to the right, dancing nymphs with Venetian masks on top of their heads. The right swan is then agitated and the tree open. Wetlook robes which makes the bodies stand out.
This white marble sculpture is a striking piece for a luxurious interior or a museum. Unique and exceptional piece.
