This original 18th century vintage Directoire period fireplace surround is from the Jura Region. The right jamb has been restored. The center detail on the front is a composition of elements of war: flags, helmet and canon. This mantlepiece was especially commissioned for a High ranked officer in the French army. The hard marble stone is a bicolor one. Just an exceptional chimney piece.
